Merit — Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 21, 2026

Merit is an independent family chores and rewards app. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information. The short version: Merit has no account, no ads, and no analytics. The developer operates no servers and never receives your family’s data.

What we collect

Nothing is collected by the developer. Merit has no user accounts, no sign-in, no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and no developer-operated backend. The developer cannot see your children’s names, photos, chores, points, behavior ratings, journal entries, or anything else you enter.

Where your data lives

Everything you enter — kids and their profiles, chores, rewards, points and allowance ledgers, savings goals, behaviors, journals, calendars, photos, and settings — is stored:

iCloud sync uses your Apple Account and Apple’s infrastructure. It is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. The developer has no access to your iCloud data.

Children’s privacy

Merit is designed to be used by families, under a parent’s control. Children use it on a device the parent set up, within a family the parent created.

Because Merit collects no personal information and sends nothing off the device, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 as defined by COPPA — the data stays in the parent’s own iCloud account throughout.

Photos

Chore photo proof and family albums use photos you choose. Photos are picked through Apple’s system photo picker, which hands the app only the images you select — Merit does not request access to your photo library and cannot browse it.

Photos are stored on your device and in your private iCloud alongside the rest of your family data. Photos are deliberately excluded from Merit’s own backup export files, to keep those files small and to avoid copying images into a document you might share. Deleting a child untags their photos.

Calendar

If you use the shared family calendar, Merit asks for full access to your device’s Calendar so it can show and add family events. Calendar data is read from and written to your device’s own calendar database; nothing is sent anywhere.

Face ID

If you turn on App Lock, Merit uses Face ID (or your device passcode) to protect parent-only screens. Authentication is handled entirely by iOS — the app never receives your biometric data, only a yes-or-no answer from the system.

Network connections the app makes

Merit contacts only Apple iCloud, to sync your own data across your own devices using your Apple Account.

There are no other network connections. No data is sent to the developer, to an advertiser, or to any analytics service.

In-app purchases

Any purchase is processed entirely by Apple’s App Store; the developer receives only Apple’s standard sales reports and never sees your payment details.

Backup and export

Merit can export your family’s data to a file that you control, and restore from one. Those files are created on your device and go wherever you choose to put them — the developer never receives them. A snapshot is taken automatically before any restore.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date.
